Our client is a best in class investment firm specializing in direct and fund of fund investments in middle market, specializing in private equity and venture capital investments. They utilize a multi-stage equity investment strategy, investing in late ventures, growth capital, leveraged acquisitions, management buyouts, buy-ins, and recapitalizations.

The firm invests exclusively in certain business sectors including: telecommunications, information technology, retail and consumer products, media, healthcare and financial and business services. They raise capital for its investment funds through institutional investors including corporate and public pension funds, university and college endowments, foundations and fund of funds.

Responsibilities:

The Financial Controller is responsible for the statutory and management accounts for the US and Latin American entities of the firm. Managing a team of 2-3 people based in New York and liaising with overseas and outsourced accountants, the team is responsible for timely and accurate delivery of financials.

* Assist with managing the quarter end process, including journal entries, review of transactions for completeness and accuracy, balance sheet reconciliations and reporting preparation for 6 legal entities.

* Timely production of annual financial statements for the UK companies, ensuring compliance with statutory reporting requirements.

* Preparation of budgets, forecasts and business plans and continued monitoring & review of performance against them to enable robust reporting of variances to the Executive Committee and third party stakeholders

* Preparing the monthly and quarterly group VAT returns, providing support to the business with respect to VAT issues and ensure the correct VAT treatment of financial transaction.

* Ensure regulatory reporting requirements for 3 FCA registered entities in the UK are completed accurately and submitted on time.

* Assist the Financial Controller with treasury and cash management activities of the UK entities.

* Establish and maintain effective governance and financial control processes including documenting and maintaining appropriate finance policies and procedures.

* Keep abreast of improvements and techniques and advise the Financial Controller/Finance Director on industry specific accounting issues.

* Assisting with the reconciliation of intercompany balances between UK and overseas entities.

* Assist with review of Fixed Asset Register in accordance with the company policies and Accounting Standards

* Assist the Financial Controller/Finance Director with adhoc projects and tasks.

Key experience required:

* CPA (+)

* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

* 7+ years of accounting experience, including preparation of financial statements and understanding US GAAP

* Public accounting experience (Big 4 +) and management company experience within the alternative investments space

* Experience of managing 3rd party vendors

* Interpersonal skills sufficient to support, advise and influence managers from different parts of the business whilst providing strong financial control where necessary

* Critical thinking and good analytical skills
