Tax Senior – Alternative Investments

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics; or Bachelor’s degree in other focus area and CPA certification. 3+ years of tax experience.

Details

This role in our Alternative Investments practice assists in providing tax compliance and consulting services to our Venture Capital, Private Equity, Hedge Fund, and Real Estate clients.

Duties:

Tax Compliance
* Ensure both that clients comply with all applicable authorities, while at the same time minimizing their tax and reporting burdens; and self and client service teams comply with all firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (“TQM”)
* Apply understanding of client’s unique set of circumstances, documentation, and/or other requirements mandated by law, and prepare required filings (tax returns) using a system of review and documentation to ensure that the client is in full compliance, while keeping the client’s tax and reporting burdens as low as possible
* Ensure all data needed to comply with filing requirements are collected; and identify and properly communicate missing items to prepare return
* Utilize firm compliance software to maximize efficiency in tax prep process
* Effectively collaborate with the Managers and Associates on completion of project (follow-up with open items list)
* Deliver high quality federal, state, and international tax compliance services
* Lead complex engagements with a team of tax professionals
* Manage the engagement, including billing, collections, and the budget for projects
* Ensure/Document client work and conclusions in the client tax file

Tax Consulting
* Assist with identifying, developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective tax strategies
* Other duties as required

Supervisory Responsibilities
* Mentor the teams of Associates

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education
* Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, required; or Bachelor’s degree in other focus area and CPA certification required
* Master’s Degree in Accountancy or Taxation preferred

License/Certifications
* CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations) preferred
* Other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role preferred

Experience
* 3 or more years of tax experience required
* Financial services industry experience supporting alternative investment funds including Venture Capital, Private Equity, Real Estate, and Hedge Funds preferred
* Proficiency in the taxation of partnerships preferred

Software
* Experience with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat preferred
* Experience with tax research databases preferred
* Proficient in tax compliance process software preferred

* Able to follow instructions as directed by the members of the Tax Team
* Takes appropriate actions without being asked
* Seeks advice of appropriate superiors regarding issues, problems related to compliance
* Solid verbal and written communication skills
