Position Description
Canaccede Financial Group is a rapidly-growing specialized investment and financial services firm with a vision to be the leading provider of alternative financial services solutions to the Canadian consumer credit market. It operates two main synergistic businesses, Canaccede Investments (acquisition and consolidation of undervalued assets) and Affirm Financial Services (non-prime consumer lending including term-loans and credit cards), established in 2008 and 2010 respectively. In 2015 Varde Partners, a $9.0 Billion global alternative investment firm that employs a credit-oriented, value-based approach to investing, acquired a 51% majority equity stake in Canaccede to expand Canaccede’s innovative consumer finance offerings and enhance their ability to deliver them to the consumer
Investment Analyst, Corporate Development and Strategy
Position Overview:
Canaccede’s Corporate Development Group evaluates and acquires other consumer finance companies and evaluates and purchase consumer receivables and private equity assets from specialty lenders, banks, owner-operators and venture capital firms. The typical investment will be a minimum of $20 million equity, with the ability to leverage returns into $100 million aggregate invested capital. Canaccede currently manages more than $100 million of investments, with approximately $1.5 Billion of consumer receivables under management.
Reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Development and Strategy, the Investment Analyst will support the acquisition process from origination through deal structuring and post-investment portfolio performance management. The suitable candidate will apply analytical rigor and exceptional financial modelling skills in the development of investment theses and recommendations to the Investment Committee, Executive Team, and Board of Directors. Initiative, independence, and a tremendous work ethic are essential.
Responsibilities:
The position will involve the following duties and responsibilities:
- Support members of the Corporate Development Group through in-depth investment target and industry research.
- Provide initial investment review and assessment for debt and equity opportunities, as well as managing and tracking the firm’s investment pipeline.
- Develop comprehensive financial models, including sensitivity analysis, detailing financial returns and capital requirements.
- Review contracts and transaction documents in order to analyze and articulate non-financial investment risks.
- Prepare complete and concise reports to the Investment Committee and provide recommendations for approval.
- Participate in meetings with perspective partners, financiers, consultants, and other outside contacts that will affect investment returns.
- Perform ongoing monitoring of assets including monthly reports to ensure investment performance is meeting expectations.
- Develop dynamic forecasting systems in order to provide regular updates and determine periodic asset valuation updates.
- Additional duties and projects as required.
Qualifications
- A degree in Business and/or Economics.
- A CFA designation (completed or near completion) is a strong asset.
- 2-5 years’ experience in private equity, investment banking, or a professional services firm offering relevant transactional experience.
- Advanced financial modelling expertise and knowledge of Excel best practices is required.
- Experience with corporate M and A transactions, including financial analysis, operations due diligence and deal execution.
- Knowledge of, and experience in, the consumer finance industry is a strong asset.
- Quantitatively driven, with the ability to develop creative methodologies for valuation measurement.
- Clear, concise writing skills.
- Thrive in an entrepreneurial environment, working within a small team.
- Project management experience and goal adherence oriented.
- Ability to operate and stay on task with minimal supervision.
- Superior written and oral communication skills are essential.
This position will be based in Toronto with occasional need to travel to the London, Ontario facility.
