Founded in 1968, TA Associates has a long and successful history of leveraged buyout transactions involving established companies and growth capital investments in new or developing companies, in a variety of industry sectors including healthcare, business services, consumer products, financial services, and technology.
TA Associates manages over $16 billion of capital, more than $6 billion of which is committed to actively investing funds, and has invested in over 400 companies. Headquartered in Boston, the firm also maintains offices in Mumbai, London, and Menlo Park, and employs over sixty investment professionals.
TA Associates generally does not take an active role in portfolio company management, focusing instead on leveraging a network of contacts in targeted industries in order to identify opportunities for value growth through mergers, divestitures, acquisitions, and other strategic business transactions. TA generally invests in businesses valued between $150 million and $3 billion, with equity investments ranging between $60 million and $500 million per transaction, and subordinated debt transactions between $10 million and $75 million.
Prominent investors of TA Associates include pension funds from organizations such as Kroger Company, General Motors, and Alaska State Pension Fund, and University Endowment Funds from institutions such as Emory University, Cornell University, the University of Michigan, and Amherst College.
