London is positioning to become the financial capital of the world, led by the $100 billion in foreign investment pouring in from the Middle East, Russia, India, China, and the U.S. This growth in the investment community has also fueled the cost of living. According to CNNMoney.com, it costs 25 percent more to live in London than in New York City.
A comparison of how insiders on both sides of the Atlantic feel about their work-life balance is in order. The Brits earn a 23 percent higher base salary and 16 percent higher overall cash compensation. With the higher cost of living, however, it would seem they may be falling behind their New York City counterparts in terms of cash compensation. The respondents in the UK stated they are receiving 30 percent more vacation per year, which likely contributes to 13 percent more respondents in the UK achieving an above average to excellent work life balance.
